Memorial Hall of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression

The Memorial Hall of The War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is located in Wanping County, beside Lugouqiao Bridge, also known as Marco Polo Bridge, where the the first shots of World War Two were fired in 1937. The Memorial Hall of The War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was opened in 1987 to mark the 50th Anniversary of what is known in the west as the "Marco Polo Bridge Incident". President Deng Xiaoping inscribed the name of the hall in his own calligraphy. When the second part of the memorial hall was completed in July 1997, then President Jiang Zemin wrote the inscription personally.

The ''Lugou Lion'', symbolizing the rising up of the Chinese nation in resistance, is located in a large square adjacent to the memorial hall. Next to the square are seven lawns indicating the place where the ‘Marco Polo Bridge Incident’ took place mark the site of the beginning of fourteen years of war against Imperial Japan.

Memorial Hall of Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is an important window through which people all over the world can learn of China's own struggle against Fascism and its place in the history of the Second World War, in which between 10 and 20 million Chinese were estimated to have perished.
